Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (Sam)

SAM'S RANKING: 10 out of 10

No one is quicker with an idea than Butch Cassidy (Paul Newman), and his sidekick the Sundance Kid (Robert Redford) has the "fastest guns in the West." Set during the Spanish-American war, the two outlaws and leaders of the "Hole in the Wall Gang" (along with Sundance's girlfriend) are forced to migrate south when the law gets the best of them.

"Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" is one of the most acclaimed Western movies of all time. The film follows these two men in great detail, with much of the film showing them on the run in the middle of nowhere, climbing mountains on foot and riding through plains on horseback. Among the best elements is the cinematography and the Oscar-winning song, "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head."

One of the film's trademarks is the two characters' sense of humor, wit, and sarcasm. There are several humorous lines throughout the film. Probably the funniest is Sundance's remark when he, Butch, and the gang use too much dynamite to blow up a safe on a train, and end up blowing up an entire train car.

The best part may very likely be the ending, in which director George Roy Hill implies an event, a method that has turned several films into classics. As a result, "Butch Cassidy" is a work of sheer brilliance.
